Trekker Reviews - Why Kedarkantha Official

FAQ's

Yes, Kedarkantha is one of the safest Himalayan treks for beginners. The trail is well-marked, the altitude is moderate (12,500 ft), and gradual climbs make it manageable even for first-timers with basic fitness.

Absolutely! Kedarkantha is family-friendly. Children above 10 years, if active and healthy, can do this trek with ease. Many families choose this as their first Himalayan snow trek.

Yes, if you plan between December and April, you are almost guaranteed to trek on snow-covered trails and campsites. This is why Kedarkantha is called the “Queen of Winter Treks.”

Temperatures can dip to -5°C to -10°C at night during peak winter months (Dec–Jan). Daytime temperatures stay around 8°C to 12°C, depending on snowfall and weather conditions.

The final summit climb is moderately steep but not technical. With proper guidance, even beginners can reach the summit. Starting the climb early morning ensures safe and rewarding views.

Kedarkantha offers a true summit experience, stunning campsites like Juda Ka Talab, and consistent snowfall – all within just 5 days. Very few treks in India provide this unique mix of accessibility, snow, and summit thrill.

Basic trekking gear like trekking shoes, warm jackets, gloves, thermals, and gaiters is enough. You don’t need technical mountaineering equipment like crampons or ice axes.

Mobile connectivity is available only at Sankri village (mostly Jio and BSNL). Once you start the trek, there is no reliable network, making it a true digital detox experience.

At Sankri, trekkers stay in guesthouses or homestays. During the trek, accommodation is in alpine tents (twin/triple sharing), offering a raw Himalayan camping experience.

Yes, Kedarkantha can also be done in May–June and October–November. You won’t find snow, but you’ll get clear skies, lush forests, and rhododendron blooms, making it equally rewarding.
